How did we do this? We put a lot of energy into regular staff bonding and development activities -- and not just baby showers and birthday cakes! We regularly meet to discuss staff personality profiles to help with internal communication; we sponsor professional management training with industry leaders; we arrange for each team member to receive continuing education credits; we hold regular reviews on how we can improve interdepartmental collaboration; we prioritize a healthy work-life balance; we provide generous compensation packages with flexible vacation, personal days, and medical benefits.
And yes, we do the fun stuff too: pizza and beer happy hours, Halloween costume contests, cookie bake-offs, afternoon Phillie's games, weekend retreats to Ocean City, MD, and our annual Christmas/holiday party.
